Working Feedback presents – ‘Vetch masterplan review approved, with plans for care home at former stadium site.’

A PLAN which will see a new care home built at the former Vetch site have been approved.

The proposals contained in the Vetch Masterplan Review reduce the housing provision estimate to 40 new homes plus a new care home or flats.

In addition, around 0.7 hectares of public open space can now be accommodated including the retention of the Vetch Veg Community Garden.

Specific instructions included an increased area of community open space including part, or all of the new Vetch Veg allotments; to include a reduced number of terraced homes; to include scope for care home and associated garden/parking spaces and to retain a location for the potential community centre.

Working Feedback presents ‘Mills Meadow Care Home in Framlingham among top scorers in UK performance poll.’

A Suffolk care home is celebrating after scoring among the highest ratings in the UK for its performance.

Mills Meadow Care Home, in Fore Street, Framlingham, operated by Care UK, scored a performance rating of 966 out of 1,000.

It was an improvement on last year’s survey of 850, was just shy of the top score of 995, and was above the average rating of 871.

Elsewhere, Paddock House in Eye scored 947, also improving on the 2013 survey, which they were rated 838.

 More than 21,000 residents from 1,034 care homes nationwide responded to the survey, commissioned by Your Care Rating.

Susan Hill at Mills Meadow said: “It’s great that our residents value the care they receive at Mills Meadow.

“Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive, which shows that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling.

“While we’re really pleased with our scores, we obviously want to get even better and the survey helps us do that by giving us direct resident feedback.

In the recent White Paper Caring for our Future, the government announced its intention to support comparison websites which assist users in choosing providers in England. With the popularity of websites such as TripAdvisor, it seems like an obvious solution to solving the problems of limited information in the social care sector. This has already been applied with some success in health care with NHS Choices and other independent websites. However, a new PSSRU discussion paper Using Online Reviews in Social Care explores the potential challenges involved in setting up this type of website for provider quality in the social care sector.

A pioneering piece of work

It may seem surprising, but this is a pioneering piece of work. In the past, the NHS and other organisations have been worried that asking terminally ill people about their care might be inappropriate, and might cause offence. In fact, people were very happy to be asked their views.

The project focused on getting feedback from patients with different chronic health conditions, including dementia, as well as the frail elderly. We sought feedback in four different care settings: hospitals, care homes, hospices and patients’ own homes.

At Marie Curie we believe that getting feedback from patients and families is a vital part of meeting their needs.

Marie Curie has just completed a pilot research project in Lincolnshire which enabled people in their last year of life to give immediate feedback about their care.
