Working Feedback presents ‘Comhairle frozen meals service coming to Lewis and Harris next month.’

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is introducing the next phase of the pre-prepared frozen meal service in Lewis and Harris from April 2015.

The development of this service is on the basis of substituting the main meal preparation that service users currently receive. Service users will still be able to choose whether to have their main meal at lunchtime or tea time.  If service users have been assessed as requiring assistance with breakfast, this will also continue.

A representative from the Social and Community Services department will contact service users to arrange a time to visit. They will have sample menus and information sheets and will also be able to answer any questions.

Cllr Uisdean Robertson, Health and Social Care Committee chair, said: “The roll out of this meal service will re-distribute the time taken to prepare meals to enable other tasks and care time to be provided. We are committed to providing the best possible care for our older people, including providing tasty, nutritious meals. Feedback that I have received directly from those receiving community meals in the Uists has been extremely positive and complimentary of the service and quality of the meals.”

Working Feedback presents ‘Reviews work for social care providers?

In the recent White Paper Caring for our Future, the government announced its intention to support comparison websites which assist users in choosing providers in England. With the popularity of websites such as TripAdvisor, it seems like an obvious solution to solving the problems of limited information in the social care sector. This has already been applied with some success in health care with NHS Choices and other independent websites. However, a new PSSRU discussion paper Using Online Reviews in Social Care explores the potential challenges involved in setting up this type of website for provider quality in the social care sector.

Working Feedback presents “Why real-time feedback really matters.”

A pioneering piece of work

It may seem surprising, but this is a pioneering piece of work. In the past, the NHS and other organisations have been worried that asking terminally ill people about their care might be inappropriate, and might cause offence. In fact, people were very happy to be asked their views.

The project focused on getting feedback from patients with different chronic health conditions, including dementia, as well as the frail elderly. We sought feedback in four different care settings: hospitals, care homes, hospices and patients’ own homes.

At Marie Curie we believe that getting feedback from patients and families is a vital part of meeting their needs.

Marie Curie has just completed a pilot research project in Lincolnshire which enabled people in their last year of life to give immediate feedback about their care.

Survey seeks NHS patients’ feedback.

VIEWS are being sought on NHS services for muscles, bones or joints as part of a review of services.

An OCCG statement said: “Views from patients who have used MSK services within the last two years are being sought to help identify opportunities to improve current services and ensure that musculoskeletal services in Oxfordshire offer patients the right care, at the right place, at the right time.”

Our top stories

It said feedback from the surveys will be considered by patient representatives and clinicians.

The survey, running until January 9, includes questions about experiences of the service such as waiting times and communication.

Musculoskeltal planned care clinical lead for OCCG Dr Rob Russ said: “We want to ensure services we commission meet the needs of our patients, their families and their carers. To do this, OCCG needs to look at musculoskeletal services, forecast future need and ensure services are not only affordable, but also deliver high quality and efficient care.”

Working Feedback presents “New dementia partnership devised to help family carers.”

A new dementia partnership has been announced between Dementia Adventure and health and social care provider Care UK.

The new initiative will run for the next year and see the introduction of a programme of free events organised by Dementia Adventure, aimed at providing support to a number of family carers and people living with dementia.

Neil Mapes, director of Dementia Adventure, said: “With dementia affecting 820,000 people in the UK and a startling 25 million people having a close friend or family member living with the condition, there is a real and pressing need to provide easy access to professional support and information, and to ensure there are places people can go where they can share individual experiences.

“We are therefore thrilled to be working with Care UK to host an extensive programme of free events at its care homes. We are looking forward to giving family carers a far more positive understanding of dementia, as well as ‘living well’ tips, resources and models to aid interaction and communication with loved ones – to see the person and not the condition.”

Care UK and Dementia Adventure organised a pilot of ten free advice sessions at a number of UK based care homes. The sessions received positive feedback from over 300 people and there are plans to introduce more sessions across the country.

Care UK provides health and social care services throughout the UK, including care homes and home care services.
